A.p. ssp. matsumurae seedlings matsumurae dissectum
This is a group of seedlings selected for bonsai out of the thousands that we propagate each year. We feel they are outstanding for either leaf or form or color. They all have good potential for bonsai, but are still very young, and untrained. They are all beautiful and different, so this is a Ôgrab-bagÕ group at a great price. |
A.p. ssp. palmatum seedlings
These beautiful "Mountain Maples" are vigorous and young, and very uniform, making them great to train for group and forest plantings. They are completely untrained, so you get all the fun! Call us if you wish to have a group of older maples of differing sizes, and we will try to put one together for you. Cost of these special groups will vary. |
ACER palmatum ssp. matsumurae
All will make beautiful container trees or landscape specimens. This is the sub-species from which most of the cultivars come. Deeply divided leaves, spreading habit, and bright fall color. These are seedlings from our nursery, so they vary widely, but all are lovely. |

ACER buergerianum Mino yatsubusa
Very unusual three lobed leaves have very enlongated and narrow center lobes, with short side lobes that extend at right angles to slightly point forward. The leaves that densly cover this small rounded shrub in clusters are shiny, a rich green, and the texture is firm. The fall color is quite brilliant , with a mix of orange and scarlet on leaves so shiny as to appear laquered. |

The leaves on this little dwarf curl up on all the edges, giving a T shape to them. They are held stiffly on the petioles, even swooping upward slightly, showing the contrast between the glaucous underside of the leaf and the deep, shiny green of the tops. Rare and choice. |

ACER campestre
(Hedge Maple) Growing slowly to 10' in 10 years, reaching 30' after many years, this little tree is valuable as a small lawn tree or a tall hedge. It will stand pruning extremely well; in fact Vertrees had a formal sheared Campestre hedge that surrounded Maplewood. Its handsome deep green oak-like small foliage and slow rate of growth make it an interesting subject for bonsai, especially group plantings. Very hardy and adaptable, it even thrives on dry alkaline soil, and tolerates air pollution. |
ACER capillipes
One of the very best of the snake-barked maples, with very distinct white stripes on purple-red young stems, becoming white horizontal stripes on dark red-green older wood. Excellent for winter interest in the garden. |
Acer cappadocicum ssp. divergens
ACER carpinifolium
A very attractive small tree for those of you in those difficult zone 4 areas. The leaves are an attractive bright green and covered with fine silver hairs when they first open. Bright clear yellow fall color. |
ACER caudatum ukurunduense
This small tree is hardy to zone 4 and will grow under any soil or moisture conditions, from very wet to rather dry. It has yellow fall color. |
ACER circinatum
(Vine Maple) Native to our Oregon and northern California mountains, this is a close relative of A. japonicum and A. shirasawanum. It is an outstanding small garden tree, and is also great for containers and bonsai. Must have good drainage. Fall color is bright orange to red. |
ACER circinatum Little Gem
This is a wonderful small rock garden plant, remaining a tight ball of very tiny foliage. Spring color of fresh pastel green is touched pink at the leaf margins, and fall color is deep red. I love the deep red twigs in the winter! We graft it onto palmatum roots for hardiness. |
Acer circinatum Monroe
This dissected form of the Vine Maple was found in the deep conifer forests of the McKenzie River high in the Cascade mountains of the Pacific Northwest. It is green in spring and summer, then turns yellow in fall. It is a strong-growing little tree with upright, stiff branches. |
ACER circinatum Pacific Fire
Breathtaking flaming red winter twigs offer just what the winter garden needs, COLOR! Spring brings beautiful orbicular light green blushed red spring leaves that contrast sharply with the red twigs. This is a strongly upright, somewhat stiff maple, with sturdy, stocky branches and twigs that are very dramatic against the deep blue of the winter sky, as well as the bright white of snow. It is very resistant to pseudomonas, the black twig disease that is so prevalent in other red twig maples. |
ACER circinatum Sunglow
It really does glow in the sun! Bright, sunny yellow-green orbicular leaves are over-brushed with coral in the spring. The leaf form is very similar to A.s. Aureum. Habit is multi-trunked and upright. Must have mid-day protection from the sun in hot areas. |
ACER circinatum Sunny Sister
A new introduction from Talon Buchholz, Sunny Sister is overlaid with a deep coral in the spring, making a wonderful compliment to Sunglow. The habit and leaf shape are the same, and just like Sunglow it prefers an under story or edge of the forest placement, with sun in the morning and shade at midday. |
ACER davidii
The DavidÕs maple is the most common of the stripped bark maples, with the pale silver/green vertical stripes becoming more prominate with age. The leaf is an attractive medium green that turns a delightful sunny yellow every fall. |
